With all the Lollapalooza hullabaloo, I nearly forgot I saw Grinderman (Nick Cave’s side project) at the Metro the other day with Stu. Faith asked me last night why I love live music so much, and shows like this are why. I have to admit that I didn’t really “get” the Grinderman album until I saw the live show. But Cave and crew came out and played their dirty blues rock. When they laid into the heavy guitar part in “Get It On” you knew that this was something other than the Bad Seeds. And as unimaginable as it is – this was darker and more intense.

Although it was the hottest show I’ve ever been to (it must have been 100 degrees in the Metro) it was an incredible performance by an artist you rarely ever see in a venue this small. This is my fourth time seeing Nick Cave, but this by far was the most powerful show of his I’ve seen.
