Roger Waters @ First Midwest Amphitheater

October 8th, 2006

I went to see Roger Waters last week with Faith, my dad and my stepmom, Kim. It was an incredible show, and a chance for me to set my concert karma straight for having missed Waters’ show at that venue a few years ago. I had made the mistake of showing up for the concert a day late (Sunday instead of Saturday). However, no such problem this time. We got there in plenty of time and on the correct day.

The set mostly consisted of Pink Floyd songs from throughout their career. The set included early work such as “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun” as well as songs from “Wish You Were Here”, “The Wall”, “The Final Cut” and after an intermission, the entire album of “Dark Side of the Moon”.

Personally, this show had a few high points for me. One was finally hearing songs from Roger Waters’ solo album “Amused to Death”. Reviews of the album have been mixed, but this continues to an extremely powerful album for me – everything that Floyd’s last two albums “A Momentary Lapse of Reason” and “The Division Bell” were not. Another high point was sharing a live concert experience with my father of music that he introduced to me as a child.
