Intonation Music Festival Research

June 19th, 2006

The Intonation Music Festival is this weekend, and while I do have tickets, I still don’t see the point of the festival. Last year, Pitchfork held the festival and it was a good time with a lot of good sets. This year Pitchfork has their own festival (aptly named the Pitchfork Music Festival) and the Intonation name has been lent, sold or rented to Vice Records to curate. Unsurprisingly, many of the acts are from the Vice Records label, and I haven’t heard of most of them.

To do a bit of research on the bands, I created a list of albums on eMusic.com with artists playing the festival. Sadly, it’s not great news. While eMusic didn’t have releases by every artist playing, they had quite a few, and I didn’t find any new bands I’m excited about seeing. However, the tickets were still cheap and I am excited to see a couple of artists: Jose Gonzalez, Jon Brion and Bloc Party (again). Plus, the good thing about a not-so-good lineup is that I won’t feel compelled to be there during the hottest part of the day.
