- First, you’re going to need to subscribe to the T-MobileWeb – it’s $5.99 a month. You can log into your account at www.tmobile.com to add the service. It takes about 24 hours for it to fully kick in, so be patient.
- Next up, your ROKR phone is going to need some settings to get it onto T-MobileWeb. Go to the Automatic Configuration Tool and select “Motorola” and then “E398″ to have the settings sent to your phone.
- After steps 1 and 2, you should now be able to access the Internet with the crappy Motorola browser on your ROKR. Go into WebAccess on your phone and launch Browser.
- Point the Motorola browser to http://mini.opera.com/ and click on Download Opera Mini. Answer ‘Yes’ to all installation messages to install it. Opera Mini will be installed in “Games and Apps” on your phone.
- Now for the exciting stuff – we need to change the settings your phone uses to connect to the Internet to get Opera Mini to work. Create a new WebSessions profile, make it the default, and use the following settings:
- Service Type 1: WAP
- Gateway IP 1: 216.155.165.50
- Port 1: 901
- Service Type 2: HTTP
- Gateway IP 2: 216.155.165.50
- Port 2: 8080
- DNS 1: 000.000.000.000
- DNS 2: 000.000.000.000
- GPRS APN: wap.voicestream.com
- Now, Opera Mini should work just fine. Go under “Games and Apps” to launch it, and click OK when it asks if it can use the Internet connection.
- While Opera Mini will work with a whole lot of web sites, you’ll have a better experience with sites that were designed for mobile users. Here’s a few I like to use:
- http://wap.oa.yahoo.com – Check your Yahoo! Mail, search for local businesses, play a few lame games, get news headlines, sports scores (bleah), check weather, get movie times and driving directions.
- http://wap.oa.yahoo.com/raw?dp=yp – Yahoo Yellow Pages, including a browsable listing of local businesses. You can also get driving directions.
- http://www.google.com/xhtml – Check your Gmail, search the mobile web, search for local businesses, search for images.
- http://mobile.google.com/local – Quick and easy search for local businesses. Plus, you can get driving directions – and tiny maps that are really too small to be useful.
