Coachella 2006 Lineup, Gadget Curse
January 31st, 2006NME.com announced the Coachella 2006 lineup today, and my reaction would be best described as “lukewarm”. Don’t get my wrong – there’s some great stuff in there. There’s Depeche Mode, Franz Ferdinand, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Devendra Banhart, Wolf Parade, Metric, The Dears, The Subways and Be Your Own Pet. But there is a LOT of bands in there that I don’t even find to be listenable. To make matters worse, there’s a lot of hip-hop too. And as much as I dislike hip-hop, I would hate live hip-hop even more.
To add to today’s weirdness, no sooner did I order my ROKR E1 last night than Cingular and Apple announced availability of the SLVR L7 today. Basically, everything the E1 is except thinner and way sexier. It looks as if an iPod nano and a Motorola RAZR shared some DNA in this phone. It’s that hot.
Which means I still have the curse. A couple years ago, when I would buy a gadget it would be replaced within a week by the new version, typically at the same price. I thought I had shaken the curse, but it remains with me. Good thing I’m not buying a new desktop until the whole Mac on Intel thing settles down in about a year.
