History: Unabridged with a Vengeance

August 9th, 2005

I’m sure I posted about this a while back – but I’m back on my history kick again. To recap – I didn’t pay much attention in my high school history classes. Actually, being a teenager, I didn’t pay much attention in any of my high school classes. But now, over a decade later, I understand why history is important. If for no other reason than to be able to argue more effectively with your misguided conservative friends (yes, both of you).

Well, this audiobook should just about cover it. It’s called "History of the World: Updated and Unabridged". And they’re not kidding. iTunes says this monster weighs in at just over 2 days, 6 hours, and 47 minutes. That’s more than an audiobook, it’s a change in lifestyle.

However, my retention of what I hear in an audiobook is pretty weak. So I’m going to treat this one like a college course, and take notes as I listen to it. True, most of my listening will be done on the train, so that will have it’s own challenges.

But I think I’m ready – just as soon as I get some really comfy earbuds. Nearly 55 hours of audio could cause permanent using Apple’s default earbuds…
