Hiya.

My name is Tony Ballinger, and I'm a web designer living in Oak Park, Illinois.
When I'm not designing for the web, I enjoy music, go to concerts and play with gadgets.

WDW Boston 2004 (Part 1)

December 13th, 2004

Ok, I’m comfortable enough now that I don’t have to break into my prescription of Hydrocodone. So now I can briefly cover Web Design World in Boston.

First Rule: Don’t Miss the First Lunch

I cannot stress how important it is to get to the first day’s lunch on time. You’ll make (or not make) all your conference friends during that first day’s lunch. That’s when people size each other up and form little geek cliques.

While this important moment of social organization was taking place, I was on a calls with the Chicago office and FedEx – trying to get a package rerouted to it’s intended destination for an important presentation. So I mostly missed the first lunch, and got there long after the groups had circled their wagons.

But oh well, having conference buddies can be nearly as much hassle as fun. Besides, I had a friend who lived in Boston and we were scheduled to have drinks at the bar that inspired the show "Cheers". And I already planned that my other free evening would be spent at Boston’s best CD store – Newbury Comics.
