AOL Mobile

November 7th, 2004

In an effort to stave off the desire to buy a new Treo, I’ve been researching neato things I can do with my T68i. From poking around at Yahoo! Mobile I found that I can have email alerts sent to my phone based on custom email filter criteria.

Let’s try that again in english:

If an email’s From contains jamusa.com, send me an alert on my phone. That way I’ll have just a bit more notice about a free ticket to a concert than I did about the Blues Explosion show.

I can also set it up to alert me to thing like sport scores and stock quotes (not that I could care about either), or important things like if it’s going to snow. You can also have news headlines and such sent to your phone, but let’s face it – there’s not much that’s so important to me that I need to read it on my phone.

I also stumbled upon My Mobile at AOL, where you can have your instant messages forwarded to your phone as SMS messages. The AOL service will also send you email alerts, as well as sell you tacky ringtone if you’re inclined to buy such a thing.

Between these two sites, I should be able to hold off until by birthday or so…
